Getting around

Kühlungsborn, the largest Baltic Sea resort in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is easily accessible by various routes.

By Car
Traveling via the A20 is the most common option. Coming from Hamburg or Lübeck, take the A20 to the Kröpelin or Bad Doberan exit, and from there continue on the L12 or B105 toward the coast. From Berlin, take the A19 to Rostock, then continue on the B103 to Kühlungsborn. Depending on your starting point, the drive takes between three and five hours.

By Train
The nearest long-distance train station is Bad Doberan, which can be reached via Deutsche Bahn from anywhere in Germany with a transfer in Hamburg or Rostock. From Bad Doberan, the historic narrow-gauge “Molli” train runs, taking guests on a leisurely ride through the countryside directly to Kühlungsborn West or Kühlungsborn East—a popular experience, especially for families.

By plane
Rostock-Laage Airport is about a 45-minute drive away and is served by flights from several domestic and international destinations. Alternatively, you can fly into the larger airports in Hamburg or Berlin, from which you can continue your journey by rental car or train.

Neighborhood

Strandstraße in Kühlungsborn is one of the liveliest promenades on the German Baltic Sea coast. Running perpendicular to Ostseeallee and the beach promenade, it combines the charming atmosphere of historic seaside resort architecture with modern vacation enjoyment and leads visitors directly to the fine sandy beach.

Those who stroll down Strandstraße are in for a treat: numerous small shops, boutiques, cafés, and restaurants invite you to enjoy a leisurely shopping spree and linger a while. From fresh fish and regional specialties to cozy coffee breaks, the culinary variety leaves nothing to be desired.

A special highlight of the street is the impressive number of well-preserved buildings in the classic style of seaside resort architecture. The elaborately decorated facades and white villas exude a nostalgic charm. Yet the street is anything but stuffy—it’s the ideal starting point for experiencing the lively atmosphere of the Baltic Sea resort.
